The next week was a roller coaster of emotions for Casey. There was so much he had to realize and to understand. So many dreams, so many fears ...

For the first time in his life he had to stand on his own feet and make his own decisions. Zeke had made it clear to him that he was ready to help him if he was able to do so, but that he didn't intent to show him his way.

"It's your life, Casey," he had said.
"You must make the choice what to do with it!"

Zeke!

He felt sad, disappointed and despaired when he thought of his parents. It hurt that he had to give up his home, to left everything behind what was his life for nearly eighteen years. Even though he only had experienced suppression and disdain from his father. Even though his mother, who loved him, was too weak to defend herself against his father and to stand up for her son.

Zeke!

When he thought about his future, he felt a mixture of anticipation and fear. He knew, he was on the right track now. All his dreams could become true. If he would be accepted by the art school in San Francisco. It wouldn't be easy, alone in Frisco, without any financial support of his parents, without friends. But he didn't want to think about the possibility that he could fail.

Frisco was his chance of a new life, the only chance he could image. A life offside of the suppression and narrow-mindedness of Herrington. A life with endless possibilities. Finally he would be able to visit every museum, every art gallery, every exhibition he wanted. The world would be there to be explored by him and his camera ...

And maybe ... only maybe he would meet someone. Someone he could love and who would love him too. This thought scared him to death - but nevertheless it was tempting. Someone to share everything with, all the fun, the madness and the disappointments of life. Where, if not in a big town like Frisco, he would ever be able to find this?

Zeke!

Casey simply couldn't get him out of his mind. He was a mystery for him. Casey felt, Zeke played straight with him, but he couldn't understand, why. Zeke had never had more but a brief look for him before. They had never exchanged more but a few insignificant words with each other.

But nevertheless, he had given him room and board without thinking. He didn't make a big thing out of it. He didn't ask anything, he didn't demand anything. He was just there if Casey needed someone for talking - and he accepted it if he shut himself away in his room for hours to contemplate.

Zeke was a loner who had built up a nearly impenetrable shell around himself. But he had told  him things nobody knew about him ... about his parents, about his love for guys ... secrets you didn't want to be known by anyone. Casey felt still a bit baffled, but he also was proud about knowing it. Zeke trusted him!

He protected him. He had intervened to stop his father to beat him up once again. Even Gabe and his football buddies who tormented him for many years nearly every day didn't bother him any longer, since they knew that Zeke was backing him all the way.

Casey smiled when he remembered.

It had been on Monday. School was over for Casey, but Zeke had still one more lesson. With a book Casey sat down onto the stairs of the school to kill the time with reading. Suddenly he felt a vehement thrust from behind.

"Upps. Sorry, Connor, I haven't notice you at all!"

Casey picked up his book again.
"What's wrong, Jay," he murmured, although he knew what a ridiculous question this was. Jay checked him out grinning when he recognised his black eye. Casey sighed, he knew what would happen next. It always happened. He didn't even try to run away any more. Then it only would get worse ...

"Okay, that's it, Simmons!"

Zeke's voice startled both of them. Jay stared at him with narrowed eyes. Obviously he was furious because Zeke had interrupted him, but he didn't dare to tell him off. No one would pick up a fight with Zeke.

Zeke slightly put his arm around Casey's shoulders.
"Are you done, Case? Or do you still need to clear up something with him?"

Casey shook the head.
"No," he murmured.
"No, let's get out off here!"

He felt the piercing look from Jay while they went over to the parking lot and Zeke pressed his shoulder reassuringly ...

Neither Jay nor Gabe or one of the other jocks had ever bothered him again since this incident.

***

Next Friday. Weekend again.

When Casey turned around the corner, he saw them. Zeke stood beside his car, together with one his best pals, Mailo, and another guy he didn't knew.

"I'll be damned! What the hell is wrong with you, Zeke? YOU don't want to go clubbing? Hey, this new club in town sounds really interesting!"

"Forget about it, Lee, our Zekie boy has other fish to fry!"

"Oh! Did I miss something?"

"Shut up," murmured Zeke.

Mailo just grinned.
"Oh c'mon, Zeke! This little geek must have something to hold onto him. Why do you play his nanny? Did he give you a good blow job?"

He throw a look at Casey who had stopped in some distance.
"Hey, Connor! How about tonight? A little bit clubbing and afterward to me? A little threesome is always fun!"

Next moment Zeke had grabbed him by his collar, his eyes furiously sparkling.
"I only say it once, okay! Get - off - his - back! One rumor in this fucking school - and I'm gonna kick your butt into next week. Do you get it?"

Mailo wrenched himself free.
"Okay, okay! Geez, Tyler, you've got it bad for him! If you will be back to normal again, you know where you can find us!"

He still threw a last, appraising look at Casey and then he disappeared with Lee on the other side of the parking lot. Zeke glanced over to Casey who still stood there numbly.

"C'mon! Let's get out off this hellhole of school for at least two days!"

Casey sighed slightly and got into Zeke's car.
"I knew it!"

"Just forget him, he is a dork," Zeke grunted.

"He is your friend, Zeke!"

Zeke shrugged.
"He is just a guy to hang around. Like all the others. I would never let them stay with me, you know."

"Yeah, but I do! And what, in the end, do you gain from it? I mean, you love going to clubs and have fun and whatever shit ... and now ... you're hanging around with me and your friends laugh about you!"

"Oh, they don't dare it. They need me. I've good connections, y'know? I can dig up nearly everything they want. And the clubbing ... It's not as thrilling as it seems to be. Always the same people, the same music, a lot of alcohol, a bit weed. Flirting around - and sometimes next morning you're gonna wake up in your car with a bitch beside you, whose name you hardly can remember  ... "

"Sounds like shit," murmured Casey.

"But it's part of my life, Casey. Better this, than to hang out at home alone for the whole weekend."

"I guess, then I rather prefer to be alone!"

Zeke laughed and put an arm around  his shoulder.
"Not today, Casey. Just the two of us. We're gonna have a lot of fun. How about a long movie-night? Have you ever seen Tarantino? It's fucking crazy shit. You will like it!"

Thank you, Mewsie.
That's why I like writing this one - it's interesting to develop the story ... I just wonder where this is going to - I have a few ideas, but I'm not sure about them ... we will see, maybe I'll surprise myself ;)
