For a moment both were silent. Each of them was waiting for the other to take the next step. Finally Zeke carefully put his hand onto Casey's arm.
"Hey! You okay?"
Casey sighed slightly but he kept quiet.
"It's not that bad, Case! You could have done worse!"
"Well, if you would be the guy in front of the camera, I would start to worry."
And he was glad to hear Casey giggling a bit.
"Where do you knew it from?" Casey finally dared to asked.
"It wasn't that hard to guess. I haven't a clue of art, but I see what I see. And I've already seen pics from you before. All of them are ... dunno ... something special. And these ones ... they are full of your aura!"
He chuckled when he saw Casey becoming bright red.
"This is a compliment, Casey, don't be ashamed. You should be proud of them. I mean, this is not the stuff you usually take. But they are really good. Wanna tell me, how this could happen?"
Casey tried to avoid his eyes.
"It was nothing! Nothing to talk about!"
"You call this nothing? I would say, it's fucking cool. C'mon Case! Please tell me how you could take these pics."
"I don't know," Casey sighed.
"I have ... just done it! I mean, it wasn't meant to happen, it just did. .... I ... I don't even know his name ..."
Zeke raised his eyebrows.
"Oh," he murmured.
All this was surprising him more and more. It didn't fit to Casey at all, but the pictures told a different story. He had to admit, he was bursting with curiosity. This boy already blushed, if someone mentioned the word 'fucking' alone. But these pics ... this was not the Casey Connor everyone knew. This was a different Casey; strong, self-confident and determined. Someone, who knew what he wanted and what he did. Someone, Zeke wanted to get to know better.
"It's a fucking crazy story," Casey said.
"You won't believe it!"
"Give it a try. I love crazy stories!"
Casey kept quiet for a while, finally he shrugged.
"So what! It was last summer. You know, I always go to my grandma's farm during the holidays. It's mostly quiet there and just a few people around. But I like it this way. After all this shit in school I don't need people around me. I just want to be left alone, time to read and to take pictures.
This day ... it was different. It was extremely hot. Some guys decided to have a party at the sea. It's one of me favorite places there, but this day ... it was too loud and too turbulent, all the music and the people around. I already wanted to go back to the farm. But then ...
I had never seen him before. He laid off the beaten track in the shade of a tree. As if he didn't want to deal with them. Maybe it was this - he looked, as if he also preferred to be alone, just like me.
Normally I don't take pictures of people, y'know. You must get really close to them, to capture the mood right. This freaks me the hell out! But with him it felt different. He was someone special. And I couldn't resist ..."
Casey was nervously chewing his bottom lip.
"I just wanted to take a few pics, quick and sly ... I was sure, that he was asleep and wouldn't notice it ... "
"But he did!"
"Yeah! I was frightened to death when he suddenly opened his eyes and looked at me. I just stand there like a stuffed dummy, the camera in the hand and I didn't even dare to breath.
Suddenly he stood up and came across to me. Well, he was stronger than me, he was bigger than me and I was sure, he would be mad about me. It was just like in school, I closed my eyes and then I waited for the inevitable consequences. I was just worried about my camera!"
Zeke narrowed his eyes.
"What the hell has he done," he hissed.
Casey smiled and shook his head reassuringly.
"Nothing! He just stood there, so near to me, that I could feel his breathing and he just did nothing. It was creepy. This freaked me out more than anything else. At last I dared to open my eyes. He was still there - he smiled, then he took my hand and just said: 'Let's get out off here!' I didn't even have to think about it. In this moment I could feel, there was no reason to be scared. I just followed him.
I don't know how long we were walking along the sea. He held my hand all along the time, but we didn't say a single word to each other. Suddenly he stopped. We both were alone. The others were a long way off. He looked at me and said: 'So ... Do you wanna risk a few more shots?'
And I said:'Sure!' It was a fucking great feeling. He made it quite easy for me. I took a lot of shots. He was so good. It was so easy to capture him right into the pics.
But then ... then he started unbuttoning his shirt. Oh God! First ... first I didn't know what to do. It felt so strange ... anyhow thrilling ... but it was nothing about sex. It was like, he was the model and I was the photographer. I knew that I wanted to make these pictures ... and I knew they would be good ... "
Casey chuckled a bit nervously when he remembered.
"Well, to be honest, first it was horrible. I was so flustered, my hands were trembling and I couldn't keep the camera under control. He didn't say a word but put on his shirt again. I felt so disappointed and mad about myself. But he laughed and said: 'Come on, babe. Let's try it again!'
That was it! You know what happened then, you've seen the pics. It has felt so great. It was so thrilling to discover him anew over and over again. But that's all what happened, Zeke, just the pictures, nothing more. We didn't even talk more than a few words.
We have stayed together till it was too dark to take more pics. Then he pecked me on the forehead and said: 'Thanks!' ... I've never seen him again ...
It's hard to believe, isn't it? Sometimes it feels like a dream to me!"
Casey kept quiet thoughtfully. Zeke pushed the pictures across the table.
"Look at them, Case! They are so real. They are so lively. They are so good."
Casey looked at them with a slight embarrassed smile.
"Yeah, I know! But it's crazy. They make me blush."
"So what! Do you regret that you've done it?"
Casey's answer was quick and determined.
"No! This afternoon I knew for the very first time who I am! It was beyond all question what I was doing! It was ... a sort of gut feeling, you know? I knew, it was okay to do it ..."
"Sounds good to me!"
He threw one more look at the pictures.
"Keep them, Casey! And if you'll ever be afflicted again by doubts, then have a look at them. They are the proof that you can do everything you want - you just have to believe in yourself!"
