When Casey entered the garage Zeke put the car-magazine, he was pretending to read, down and stared at him with slightly narrowed eyes.
„So, how was the morning?“
„Great. I went to the bookstore, the photoshop and to 'ComicDreams,' of course. They have gotten some pretty nice, new comics; I guess, we should go again next week.“
„That was all?“
„Well, I made a stop at Annie's for one of her delicious strawberry muffins.“
Zeke pulled the face, unable to hide his slight annoyance for longer.
„I was at the Mall, too, you know.“
Casey looked surprised.
„Why didn't you tell me? We could have to go together. Would have been twice as fun.“
„Seems like you have had other plans anyway.“
„Other plans? What are you talking about?“
„Oh. You've seen us?“
„I did. Really, Casey, you and Stan? Well, he's nice, but... A former star football player. I've never thought that there would be more between you two.“
Unable to hide his feelings for longer Zeke turned his head away. It was ridiculous to feel that disappointed and hurt, he knew this well enough. Casey was his best friend, but he had never shown more interest in him. Well, besides of this kiss last New Years Eve, but he had been tipsy back then, and the next day he had acted as if it never had happened.
„Me and Stan? Really?“
Casey snorted slightly.
„Oh, c'mon Zeke, we met accidently, that's all.“
„At Kay Jewelers?“
The grin vanished from Casey's face, and he blushed slightly. Great. This was evident enough, wasn't it?
„Kay Jewelers,“ Zeke repeated.
„It is that serious already? And you never told me? I thought we are friends. What do you think? That I would act like a homophobic prick?“
„Good God, Zeke.“
Casey rolled his eyes.
„What's all this fuss about? Stan is not gay, get that?“
„Mhm. That's why you are looking for wedding bands together.“
„We didn't ...“
Casey stopped midsentence and sighed.
„Fine. The truth. But I ask you to keep it secret because Stan will kill me when he finds out that I've told you.“
Zeke took a deep breath and grabbed for his cigarettes; usually, he didn't smoke in the garage because of all the lab stuff, but at the moment he couldn't care less.
„So he's afraid of the big coming out? What a shithead.“
To his surprise, Casey suddenly burst into laughter.
„He wants to know her answer first before he tells everyone. That's understandable, isn't it? Though I can't imagine that she says 'no'; she's already crazy about him forever and a day.“
Feeling confused Zeke frowned.
„Crazy about him? What the hell are you talking about?“
„God, Zeke, you can't be that blind. Stan and Stokes. Don't tell me that you don't know, they act like lovebirds all the time.
He wants to propose to her on her birthday, and he asked me to help him with the ring. He's not the most romantic guy and he wants to make it right. That's why we met at Kay's today."
„Stan and Stokes. Shit.“
Great. Zeke knew he had made a fool out of himself.
„You truly thought, Stan and me... No way. This guy is straight as an arrow, and he loves her to pieces.“
His blue eyes sparkled, he licked his lips.
„And I did kiss you, remember that?“
Suddenly Zeke felt his mouth going dry.
„I thought you'd have forgotten,“ he murmured.
"You never talked about it again."
„I thought you wanted me to forget it. But maybe...“
Casey stepped closer, very close, though he didn't touch him Zeke could feel the heat radiating from his body.
„Maybe I was wrong, and we could do it again?“
Zeke bent his head, and their lips met.
